When I was young, much younger than I am now, I had trouble getting out of bed. I was angry and depressed and not motivated. If it hadn't been for my Mom, I would still be there, because she was the one who pointed me in the direction of HOPE. That was twelve years ago, and I am a very different person today, mostly because of a whole lot of other people who cared.

I had a lot of support along the way; there was a woman named Debra who helped me get through a bunch of stuff so that I felt okay leaving the house; there was the staff at HOPE and the Members there, who are great. I have learned to manage my anger, mostly through meditation, listening to music, but also coming here to HOPE helps me communicate better. There are other people here who have been through things and it's good to talk to them. HOPE gives its Members an opportunity to socialize, to enjoy different activities, to develop and learn, and to feel useful again. I volunteer here to assist with cleaning or keeping the space in good condition. It is also important that I have learned about action and consequences.

Coming here to HOPE keeps me busy, involved and inspired. I work with people at another agency too, which is good because it keeps me active and I am happiest when I am busy. There are so many people who work together to make my life better; my peers, my case manager, my navigator, the HOPE kitchen staff. I have a great team. There are still some things I need to deal with, some consequences, but I feel better every day about taking care of myself...and I am happy. I feel like I have come back. HOPE inspires hope.
